How Do AdComs View a "P"?

My sophomore year, I dropped a class and in place of it, was a teacher’s aide, which comes up as (or something really similar to) “School Service” on my transcript. I got a “P” (Pass)…what do adcoms think of this?

bump…

At best, it is a nothing. The adcom will look at your academic courses, their rigor, and their grades. School service for a P might hurt you if your schedule was shy a core class because of this choice. What class did you drop?

I want to know this too. I’m taking Chem AP next yr pass/fail. I’m also taking Bio AP and a lot of other AP classes though.

What do you mean by, “shy a core class because of this choice”? Do you mean that a P in School Service could potentially look feeble in the eyes of adcoms if I also happened to take electives, or non-academic courses the same semester as I had School Service?

And as far the the GPA goes, the “P” has no effect. For instance, say I had School Service, Math, and English, one semester. If, one term, I received a “P” in SS, and an “A” in both Math and English, my GPA for that term would be 4. If the next term I received a “P” in SS yet again, but a “B” in Math as well as English, my GPA for that term would be 3. Oh, and BTW, sorry if that example was confusing, since I used a block schedule as apart of my example, which my school just so happens to run. :)

BTW, the class that I dropped was Biology. I plan on taking it my Junior year.

Oh, and adcoms stands for, “Admissions committees” right? Or is it “Admission Committees”?
