I’ve always been a math/science person, and I’m not as strong in humanities as I am in STEM courses. I’m currently a junior. There are a lot of grading disparities in the English department so some years I’ve had extremely difficult teachers while other years I had easier ones.
This year I got a pretty tough teacher in English (compared to the one I had last year who was much more lenient). I’ve been getting strong grades in the rest of my classes, but the grades in English this year aren’t as good as I would want. I’ve tried to go to him for extra help, but he’s more of a ‘figure it out yourself’ teacher and he doesn’t really give us a lot of guidance on assignments even if you ask.
I can’t really explain what I received in his class because my school as a really strange grading scale, but the grade wasn’t super great. I’m going to try to improve next term, but I’m worried that I won’t be able to. What I’m also concerned about is how AOs might view my grades if the good grades are extremely skewed toward the sciences - if I can score well on the english section of the SAT and the essay, could this somewhat make up for my grades?
