how do bad grades from community college affect admission?

I studied 3-4 years in community college since I moved to the US. I did pretty bad in the first year and failed classes. for my course works in cc, I have 3 F’s (two ESL and one English) and 3 W’s and 2 NP(no pass). would this be big problem for admission??

It’s certainly not going to help you, and it could be a major problem if it means your undergraduate GPA is below 3.0, because then you might not meet school-wide graduate admissions criteria. It seems as though your poor scores could all have been language-related, so you need to show that you are now competent in English and it would be helpful to have more recent grades that are excellent (in both language-intensive classes and in classes related to the field you hope to pursue). Good luck! Graduate admissions are especially tough for international students, so you really need to put together as strong a package as you can.

thank you eg1. guess Ill need to get good verbal scores on the GRE.

I studied hard after I transfered to ucla and wil be graduating this year with ~3.8 gpa. I got mostly A’s and some A+'s in my major classes, aerospace engineering. Im worried that my past bad grades will affect my admissions. for example, if they include my cc gpa, I could be as low as 3.3.
