How do boarding schools know how challenging my current school is?

Hey guys! not really sure how to use this site but how do schools like andover, kent school, deerfield, etc know if my school is a ‘challenging’ school or not? because my school and this other school lets call it ‘S’ are taking the same IGCSE exams at the end of the year (maybe different syllabuses) and one of my friends moved to S and said it’s super easy there compared to my current school (he even got a B in math compared to in my school he failed). My school is a singapore school but my friend was from a singapore school and came to my school and she said her old school was super easy too. so how do the schools I’m applying to know that my school is ‘hard’ and how do they know how my grading system works because i don;t think my principal wrote about the grading system in the transcript form? and my core average is 75% which i heard is really bad in us but in my school, its a B.

Also if you say from the internet, I’ve searched about my school on the internet and theres nothing about how challenging it is!! or do they just ignore the challenging part and only care about my grades??

At least for the schools that use the Gateway application, this is covered somewhat in the questions your current school administrator must answer when submitting your transcript–see below. I couldn’t find the SSAT SAO counterpart form very easily but I assume it requests similar information.

@soccerlove6 so you are an international applicant?

Hello!! im from singapore too, what schools are u planning to apply to? Im not sure about your school, but for mine, there is a column for our level’s mean and I think together with this, they will use the transcript report to judge! all the best for ur applications :slight_smile:

In addition to what @AppleNotFar far said,
The SSAT scores (or ISEE) provide a baseline and an equal comparison (of scores) among applicants…

@Center yess

As @Atria says, your SSAT or ISEE are very important in their evaluation of your application. I have heard admissions personnel say that they are often weighed more heavily for international because they dont really know as much about the schools. That probably goes for US schools they arent familiar with as well.
