how do california residents veiw these colleges

UCLA

USC

University of San Francisco

San Diego State

Azusa Pacific University

Biola University

Mount Saint Mary’s University

I’d just like to know from someone who lives in the area and knows the schools and hype better. Thanks.

UCLA; a top UC with Med school. Large campus in nice area. Football, and Basketball.
USC; Big Film school. Great alum network. Not the best part of town. Football and Football.

What about the other schools? I kinda figured those comments about USC and UCLA though.

Azusa Pacific University

Biola University
Christian schools. I know students at both that like it a lot, if you like that sort of thing.

San Diego State
Big. A great value if you can get in: Very popular CSU with LOT’s of applicants.

University of San Francisco
Expensive?

I think of the private schools you mentioned, U of SF is regarded as having the best academics and is the most prestigious. The other privates seem to aim for a more specific religious background in their students and provide a more specific religious point of view on campus.

UCLA and USC - both highly respected, top quality education.

SDSU - very large, gives preference to students in its service area if I remember correctly (the rules seem to keep changing). Lots of applicants, and as a result is fairly selective.

Thanks, I’m not sure I’d like Biola or Azusa Pacific, because what I’ve read is that they are extremely strict/no one parties/if you do anything bad you’re frowned upon. And while I’m Christian, for college I think it’s a bit ridiculous. And I know SDSU has lots of applicants, but how to people actually VIEW the school? The reason I’m saying these schools is because they have nursing… minus USC which would be my top choice of school if they had nursing.

I view SDSU as a great value and VERY popular. Don’t know about the quality of nursing, but in general I think you can get a good education.

great value as in money? it’s pretty affordable for oos students. that’s very appealing to me.

I got into Biola for Fall 2011 and denied their acceptance. Biola isn’t very diverse and extremely expensive. Although, its well regarded. And its also known to have strict rules…a lot more strict than Azusa (which is slightly more laid back).

UCLA- prestigous.

USC- presitgous, but a lot of people make jokes about the students there being rich and snobby lol. However, I think its a very nice school.

SDSD- Very popular…And growing extremely hard to get accepted to because of the increasing amount of applicants. Its one of the better CSUs and not really thought of as a “commuter” like the rest of the CSUs. It has a great college atmospher in a great city.

University of San francisco- prestigous, but not really much else to say about it.

And I heard of that Mount what-ever-its- called school, but I know little to nothing about it.

usf is a grad school, if i’m not mistaken. i think it’s roman-catholic affiliated? not sure on that one.
usc - private. rival of ucla. known for football
ucla - “public ivy” one of the top uc’s or the top, depending on how you view it.

UCSF is a grad school, USF is a Jesuit university.

UCLA, competitive, high achieving
USC, people either love it or hate it…usually because of football lol. Prestigious, lots of alumni connections…overwhelming school pride for decades
USF, not familiar enough with this school, positive image.
San Diego State, beautiful people lol…safety school for high level students
APU, christian environment good academics, lower level than UCLA/USC but still good enough
Biola (right down the street from me), same as APU, great theology program.
Mount Saint Marry’s, catholic all girl school next to UCLA…a lot of girls go there because they were rejected by UCLA-or at least thats the general consensus.

I’ve heard people refer to USC as the University of Spoiled Children.

A very large portion of UCLA is Asian. I think the surrounding area is Asian as well.

UCLA: Amazing, but most California residents know the academics are a bit overhyped.

USC: Great alumni network in LA. Everyone knows the academics are top notch.

University of San Francisco: Good, but not great.

San Diego State: Overshadowed by (if not confused with) UCSD. Acceptable, but just seen as another state school (but one of the better CSUs, I believe.)

Azusa Pacific University: No idea. Probably the same as USF.

Biola University: Also no idea.

Mount Saint Mary’s University: Never even heard of it.

I mean no offense to any of these schools; this is just how people I know perceive them.
