I understand that by taking more advanced classes (I take AICE classes but it is mainly based in florida) you gain more credits, but how do they work? Like do they save you money in specific classes by completely skipping them due to credits or is it that specific credits cover specific classes?
Most colleges will only give credit for AP tests and IB. Taking an AP course without getting a 4 or 5 on the AP test is irrelevant.
There is no one rule or system on college credits that applies to every college. In other words: it depends on the college.
“Taking an AP course without getting a 4 or 5 on the AP test is irrelevant.”
Or 3, at many/most colleges out there.
There are some colleges that don’t give one bit of credit for AP courses…even with a 5 score on the test.
And there are many others where courses required for your major cannot be met with AP courses.
Look up the AP/IB/CLEP policy at your school.
I don’t know why people on here are going on about AP when the OP clearly said his program is AICE. In any case, AICE seems to help with Bright Futures: google what-is-the-advanced-international-certificate-of-education-aice
Not sure how useful it is elsewhere.
UK and British Commonwealth unis may also care about your AICE grades for admissions.
It seems like a form of A-levels and evidently some American colleges give credit for some scores: http://www.cie.org.uk/usa/recognition/
You can google more.
There isn’t a one size fits all answer. You have to research each school on your list. Usually the school website has some information.
