how do college look at ACT scores

when people list their SAT scores, they would add a verbal+math score by the side

When i see college profiles listing middle 50% ACT scores, they have an extra English+math score by the side.

Correct me if i’m wrong, but English tests one’s grammar skills right? and Verbal tests reading comprehension skills. So why don’t they add Reading+math, instead of English?

From my experience, English seems to test grammar and general writing skills, such as what sentence sounds best.

Like everyone will tell you, the ACT only test how good you are at taking the ACT.
