How do empty nest moms spend their day ?

I won’t be officially empty nested until the Fall of 2012, but I’m already making plans for it. I work full time, so my days are already accounted for. However, my evenings will be WIDE open.

I live near Princeton University, and checked out their open-to-the-public lecture schedule. They have lectures that start at 4:30, lectures that start at 8 p.m., and also have classes that I can audit (if I can find any that fit into my schedule that are interesting to me).

I belong to ■■■■■■■■■■, and will be attending more events.

I plan on spending more time on charitable events.

I will be able to take vacations that are not during school holidays, so they will be less crowded AND less expensive.

I belong to a couple of book clubs.

I will be able to spend more time with friends & my sister and dad.

I will be able to visit my kid (on the rare times that I am invited), or will have my child visit me (probably dragging a month’s worth of dirty laundry with her).

I can have a gentleman over any time I want (I’m divorced).

I know I’ll miss my child, but I also know that she’ll be happy and busy in her new exhilirating environment, and it’s up to me to make sure that I plan activities for myself that are also stimulating and interesting.

I play tennis once a week, have lunch with the girls after. Play mah jongg once a week, sometimes twice if another game needs a sub. I take a yoga class once a week. I walk my three dogs, I run errands, cook (ok not every night but at least 4 nights a week.) and now that it is spring I am doing a lot of gardening with more to come as it warms up. And at least once a week I have some appt or other (hair, dr, dentist, vet…)

I’ve started my own small business but that is only around 8 hours a month.

I also spend a lot of time on the phone arguing with customer service people about incorrect billing and other assorted issues.
