So I applied and and was admitted into DePaul (woo!) and I recently met this awesome girl on the DePaul facebook group. We’ve been talking a lot, and we’ve really hit it off. We’re going to be submitting our housing agreement soon and I was just wondering how do I absolutely ensure that she and I will be roomed together?
Of course, there’s a section on the agreement where you put your preferred roommate’s name in, but the whole “preferences are taken into consideration but are not guaranteed” part frightens me.
I was thinking about sending the housing department an email after we put our applications through stating that I absolutely need her as a roommate because she can ensure there won’t be any peanut butter or peanut products brought into our room (I have a really bad allergy). Do you think this would push them to make sure we’re together?
Has anyone been through this process before (any DePaul people)? Am I worrying unnecessarily? Should I go the email route? HELP?

I would just put her name down, and make sure she does the same. If it’s possible to put you together (and if both people request it) they will.

I can’t speak for DePaul, but my experience at GW was that if you put another student’s name down on your request and they did the same, you’ll end up together. The whole “preferences are taken into consideration” part is most likely referring to your preferences of a dorm building, not roommates.
