How do I afford UT Dallas?

Hi!

I got accepted in into UTD a while back and got 8k per year AES which makes me eligible for in-state tuition (Roughly $25k per year tuition and housing costs). However, that’s still a little out of the realm of affordability for me and I am still reliant on a bit more aid to consider attending. Is the 8k per year standard or does the AES money vary? Are there any other scholarships/opportunities that make UTD more affordable?

Thanks!

So you’re out of state?

They said they were OOS but are eligible for the instate tuition cost. So…for college cost purposes, that’s like being instate.

Trouble is…even that still puts the cost of attendance above what the family can afford.

Just was making sure.

It may be they have to look at their overall portfolio and see if in state or another is less…

I asked because I wasn’t sure what AES was…

AES is UTD’s Academic Excellence Scholarship, given in varying amounts. It sounds like they are oos, received $8k/year which then flips them to in-state status/tuition. Unfortunately, UTD is one of the more expensive Texas public schools, so it is still too expensive.

OP - I am not aware of ways to make UTD more affordable. You might need to look at other schools, but I guess I would call UTD and ask if there are other scholarships. If you do a thread in Chance Me or Search and Selection with your stats and most importantly your budget people might be able to help with suggestions. You would need to apply soon as many deadlines are approaching.

Good luck and Congrats on AES!

Agree with the others. I would call the Office of Financial Aid to discuss. If they can’t budge and the school is out of reach financially you will need to move on and find affordable opportunities.

Thank you!! I think the current list of scholarships isn’t suited for my major (economics) but I did contact a representative a couple weeks back and they said some scholarships will open after mid January. I should check in after FAFSA and perhaps call someone and discuss with someone from the Office of Financial Aid as @happy1 said.

Thank you so much for your help!!

You should also start planning for alternative schools. What are your stats and what is your home state - maybe there’s a better financial fit out there? An unaffordable school is not a realistic option.
