Hi all!
I need help. I’m leaving the country for 3 months in late February to study abroad for my last high school semester, so I need to be fully informed of my financial aid decisions before I leave in order to comfortably commit to a school before I depart. However, my top choice school’s early action response date is February 1, which makes things really difficult for me if I’d like to know my admission decision and financial aid information before I leave, and still have a few days to negotiate financial aid offers and revisit the schools I was accepted into. How can I phrase a letter to the admissions office asking for an expedited decision without coming off as desperate, needy, or selfish? Would my request be damaging to my potential offer of admission and aid, as it may seem impatient?
Thank you!!
You can probably negotiate FA offers by phone or e-mail and lots of students have to make decisions without visiting. So, it is not clear to me that you need an early decision any more than any other student, but I doubt if it will hurt to ask as long as you are polite. Don’t be surprised if they deny your request.
This won’t work, and as @nw2this has written, it’s unclear why it would even be necessary. Are you studying abroad in the darkest Amazon or somewhere else out of the range of communication? If not, why the rush?
College admission offices aren’t likely to respond positively to such a request at any rate, @jrush17
Thanks all! I’ve decided not to contact their offices. I’ve realized that I’m just feeling a little too anxious, and that any expedited decision is not necessary.
Good call, @jrush17
