<p>If I were to get into Duke (if) I would probably be paying incredibly little, say…3-5k a year with 1-2k in loans. My mom took out prepaid college for me so I receive 5k each year from that. She is now freaking out about how we can’t afford this, and (and I’m almost positive) she’ll most likely force me to find a way out of the ED agreement due to finances and would then force me to go to a state school.</p>

<p>Wait until you get in and receive your FA package and then worry about it. Try the Duke financial aid calculator to get a relative estimate of your need and take a look at the graph based on income levels:</p>

<p>Oh I know, and she called the Duke FA office today. she makes about 55k so aid is basically guaranteed to be excellent…but she just freaks out because she thinks state schools will allow me keep more money…but honestly, I’d rather take out loans for a few thousand and go to Duke…assuming I get in, obviously.</p>

why don’t you compile an excel spreadsheet or word document? find out the exact expenses for Duke and your state school and compare those numbers.</p>
<p>Sorry. I’ve not had any guidance. My school counselors have been discouraging me from applying, and my family isn’t exactly interested in my education. </p>
