How do I do Yale EA?

Hey,

I am a junior now and I know only a little about the college admissions process, but I am considering to do Yale EA next year. What should I know about doing Yale EA? What should I do in preparation? What should I be doing now until October to get my application fixed and ready to go?

Note, I am only taking my SAT I this June for the first time, I hope to take it again in the fall… and take my SAT II’s.

You are asking good questions. You may find your score on the first sitting is strong enough not to have to take the SAT a second time-FYI…line up 2 teachers to write a letter of recommendation. The form will not be ready for them to fill out till next Fall, however.Take the time now to put down in chronological order your activities, clubs, awards and class rank/GPA. It will help you with your applications. Good Luck!

Ah great, thank you for your reply APOL.

Yeah, I hope my SATs are good enough… but I dont know, can’t be too sure. Will I still be able to take the SATs AND SATII in the fall and still go EA?

I shouldn’t tell my teachers of my intentions just yet right? I should probably wait until September at least no?

The last acceptable test for SCEA (Single-Choice early action) to Yale is the November test date for SAT I and SAT II. Thus you will have the October test and the November test to build up necessary scores (if needed). Also the last acceptable month for the ACT is October since it requires six weeks to report the scores to Yale. If you do take the exam in November, if would strongly suggest rushing the scores to Yale to ensure the admission officer sees it in time. I notified my teachers at the end of my junior year to give them some time to work on my recommendation solely. However, the teachers I asked to write my recommendations were teacher who I was on great terms with so it was much easier for me. Just a note normally a 2250 puts you in the competitive range for Yale and other Ivies. Sorry if my post is somewhat jumbled, I hoped I answered all of your questions at one point or another.

as far as “what should you know” about yale ea is that it is SCea… that means you have to be pretty darn sure that yale is the right school for you, because the early action initiative is taken as a sign of your dedication to a school. therefore, if you are only able to apply early to one school, you should make absolutely sure that you want it to be yale. having initially been deferred this year, i regretted using my early action on the single-choice of yale. (being admitted in april somewhat alleviated this regret.)
