How do I employ this?

Comments/answers strongly appreciated.

1- Will I be expected to get involved in other ECs even if I was doing ~ 40hrs/wk of job and taking 12+ units (I would need to do this because I need the money)?

2- Can any of these be considered a ‘hook’, or can they be of any advantage when transferring as a junior from a JC to Stanford, if any? (Stanford seems more accepting to unusual but intellactually curious students):

A- Being ultra-proficient in a critical language: Arabic (No, not just fluent) –> I didn’t see a subject SAT for Arabic…!!!

B- Coming to America at age 19 without the help/guidance/advice of anyone - was homeless twice once for 3 days and another for 311 days (shows a huge deal of determination…etc) Shameful!!.. but if it would help, i’m willing to use it!!

C- Being of a North African/Arabian descent (URM?)

D- Having worked 30-40 Hrs/Wk while attending a JC and maintaining 3.8-4.0 GPA in 12-18units-semesters.

F- Father passed away when the applicant was 13.

Which of the aforementined ‘unusuals’ should I start planning to use? and if any, How?

The intellectual curiousity thing is a different story. I’m just trying to determine what will work best to make my profile different.

You could easily incorporate A,B,C, and F into one autobiographical type essay about coming from North Africa and becoming homeless, yet striving to make something of yourself.

I think there’s definitely some hook here, especially with B, coming alone and then making a life for yourself. That is something that most people cannot say they did.

A,B,D will certainly make you stand out. It seems like survival has been your main EC.

How old are you now? Are you US citizen? Are you trying to transfer as a junior?

26 y/o. Yes, I’m a citizen. And yes I would be trying to transfer as a junior.

and I like the way you put it “It seems like survival has been your main EC.” This is sooo accurate, but I never had enough (confidence?) in survival as an ‘activity’. You changed my perspective on this one. Thanks.
