How do I get into a college student mode?

I’m a full time student, but I don’t feel like a student. I’m a 25 year old Rd Senior, but I transferred from community college, so I’ve only been at my university a year. I’m doing two senior years, so I’ve a fair amout of time left. My Junior year was pretty bad. Lived on campus but my roommate was completely toxic and the university took a very “just be lucky you even get to live on campus” attitude towards any problems, which was especially hard to deal with because I’m autistic. I also ended up with a job that threw way more hours at me than I needed. I was only on campus for lecture, then ran off to work. I wasn’t a student, I was a liquor salesperson who went to school now and then. Schoolwork was constantly backburnered so I could go sell liquor, and my 3.8 GPA slipped to a 3.2 over the year. I never made any friends on campus, again especially with the autism. No extracurriculars do to time limitations.

I’ve removed both of these problems. I gave my boss my two weeks notice, and I live off campus (a ten minute bus ride away). I want to go without a job for a bit to get situated back into campus life, but that’s where I’m lost. I don’t actually know how to make friends, and I’m kind of lost socially on campus. I’m at that point where I know what needs to be done, but not how it’s going to be done.

Since you’re putting off work for a little bit, I would try to focus on joining some on campus clubs/organizations, find people in your major, and go to different campus events. Maybe try to find others to study or do homework with.

A little has changed. I agreed not to quit my job in exchange for a weekly schedule that puts me at the same hours every week, on Sunday and Monday. I don’t have a Friday class, so this gives me Friday and Saturday for a weekend and puts my work hours at the start of the week so I can spend the rest of the week in a college mindset without thinking about going to work. That alone might end up helping a great deal.
