How do I know if schools have received my fafsa profile? I need to add a few schools but I don’t think I can take the schools off my fafsa list if they haven’t received it. Correct me if I’m wrong.
Also, if someone can answer this that would be great. Boston College and Villanova need my signed federal income tax return and w-2 forms. They also need the same documents from my parents. How do I deliver this information to the college? By mail?
most college websites have an applicant portal where you can check what has been received. There would also be instructions there on how to submit documents.
All schools that my son applied for that requested W2s also required the CSS profile. If a school requires the CSS profile (in addition to the FAFSA), you upload these documents through iDocs on the CSS website. It took about 5 days after scanning the various documents for them to be processed and then forwarded to the schools.
For the FAFSA, as soon as the form has been processed, you can remove some schools and add others and the first schools will still have access. Think of it as a mailroom, where those first 10 schools have your FAFSA put in their box. They can pick it up whenever they want to. Some schools pick up the mail every day, other pick up bunches every week or 2 weeks.
This is not necessarily true. Some schools that require CSS Profile do not use IDOC and instead require that requested tax forms be transmitted to the school by some different method. You must check the instructions that each school will have available on the school’s website.
@BelknapPoint, thanks for the correction. For example, George Washington wants the tax forms transmitted directly.
