How do I look for ADE?

I’m new here but I’ve been browsing previous threads and I’ve noticed that chancers aren’t always all that popular. So just so you know, I’m not here to brag or anything like that! And when you tell me how you think I look on paper, don’t put any additional shine on anything. I don’t want to fool myself into a false sense of security. I’m a 10th grade male applying for 11th grade at Phillips Academy Andover, Phillips Exeter Academy, and Deerfield Academy. I’m a legacy at all my schools, but most closely at Exeter (my dad went there).

SSAT 99th percentile (2334)
99th percentile vocab (800)
98th percentile reading (774)
79th (!) percentile math (760 is only 79th percentile!)

PSAT 99th percentile (210)
99th percentile reading
99th percentile writing
97th percentile math (more like it!)

Algebra II - A
English - A
Physical Science - A
IB French IV (I ran out of mainstream French classes to take) - A
AP European History - B+
Unweighted GPA 3.8, weighted 4.16

Extracurriculars
Sophomore class VP; Day student prefect; Volleyball (setter) 3 years; Drums 2 years; Ultimate frisbee 4 years; Squash 1 year; Photography 3 years (I’m really passionate about it and I’ve been lucky enough to have been professionally exhibited before. I’m going to send in portfolios with my apps).

I’ve had my interviews and I felt that they went really well. I felt like the officers were enthusiastic and I certainly was throughout the interviews too. As for essay writing, I think I’ve got my app essays covered.

I might add a little more later as I think of it, but with the info I’ve just given, how do I look for the schools I named? This won’t matter at Andover and Exeter, but I’m applying for financial aid as well, and I live in Ireland. I hold an American passport as well as a British passport but am applying to my schools as an international student from Great Britain.

You bring a lot of positives to the table: good test scores and grades, international student, leadership, and a passion (photography), plus being a legacy doesn’t hurt.

I think you look really good. Legacies help A LOT at prep schools.

I started a thread about legacy advantage and respondents varied in their testimonies regarding the benefits of being a legacy applicant. Applying as an international student however, your chances are lowered because international students go into a separate pool (I’m an international applicant to your three schools as well). At least what I was told on the other thread was that the disadvantage of being segregated from US applicants may outweigh (or at least neutralize) most legacy benefits.

the azn eXonian, how do you know legacies help a lot at prep schools?

Well it has to be easier applying from Britain than from Korea, so I wouldn’t say ALL international applicants are in the same boat.

That’s a good point, mpicz.
