Questions:
I’m worried that my ECs are extremely weak because I only did extracurriculars during my junior year and after. How bad does this look on colleges?
Does it look bad if you take the SAT more than twice? (I’ve taken it three times, one during my sophomore year because of parental pressure).
How do AP scores affect admissions?

Schools I want to apply to:
Duke Pratt (in state)
MIT
Georgetown
Georgia Tech
Cornell
Davidson College (in state)
University of Virginia
UNC Chapel Hill (in state liberal arts backup)
North Carolina State (in state engineering backup)

I’m looking at applying early action to MIT and Georgetown.
Pleaaaaaase give me advice…

bump :frowning: any comments are welcome :-/

Hahah, maybe you shouldn’t include the “Perfect Attendence” award :stuck_out_tongue: Just a thought.

Duke Pratt: I don’t know.
MIT: your resume doesn’t look very math/science orientated. 40%
Georgetown: 60%
Georgia Tech: 90%
Cornell: 80%
Davidson College: I don’t know.
University of Virginia: I don’t know.
UNC Chapel Hill: 80%
North Carolina State: I don’t know.

Hahah sorry. I’m not focused very much on in state schools. Maybe you should apply to some harder colleges. I would suggest Dartmouth, Columbia, Washington University in St. Louis.

Good luck! :)

Thanks! I’m considering applying to Darthmouth, Washington, and switching to Duke Trinity.

Oh I just didn’t mention that I took engineering and technology classes and excellent recommendations from those teachers… but that might not mean much.

decent to very good chances everywhere

Do you go to Enloe? You’re practically guaranteed for UNC-CH and NCSU.

Haha no I don’t go to Enloe (that’s ranked 52). I go to Western Guilford. Thanks for giving me confidence that I’m gonna get into colleges I consider my safeties!

Question: I thought my resume was very weak… what is it that gives me a decent chance everywhere?

No chance at MIT or any other Ivy. SAT scores are not competitive despite a decent math score. High math scores are much more common than the others. You need 700 range scores across the board to compete.

Your city volunteering thing is very impressive. It shows that you have interest in the community. I don’t know about Ivy’s but the ones you’re planning on applying to seem easy enough for a person like you :)

Heh. Thanks for the feedback on how challenging it is to get into the Ivies or MIT. Are there any non-Ivie elites around the East that you guys think can be possibilities for me?

If you’re going to try for MIT, you might as well try for Olin too. The admit rate is quite low though.

Have you looked into Rice?

Haha, i thought this thread was asking how one goes about looking for an elite. lol

Have you looked at Carnegie Mellon?

What I’ve heard from some that Carnegie Mellon was kinda boring.
And Olin seems VERY competitive. But thanks for recommending the 3.

CMU isn’t any more boring than most of the schools you listed. And the city of Pittsburgh is the best!
