Yeah, there are many good reasons to join a frat or sorority and frats/sororities with cool people out there, but all the ****ty ones overshadow the good ones and give greek a bad name

While pramirez184 offers some good advice, let me offer some different advice of my own.

Do whatever you want to do.

F* anyone who looks down on you for that.

Haters gonna hate.

And that video is hilarious.

^ i agree. Wear what you want. **** the Haters

I’m pretty sure this thread is a parody of the “how to not look like a freshman” thread…

That GDI is used frequently enough that it warrants being abbreviated is pretty sad. I didn’t really respect frats/sororities anyway though so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised.

Am I the only person that’s never even heard the term GDI?

I didn’t until this either

A lot of people, mostly frat guys, also use “geeds.” Basically even more derogatory

Why is there this elitist attitude amongst frats? Are sorority girls generally the same? I have some sorority girl friends and classmates that were always so friendly to me and never thought of me in a negative way… at least I don’t think so.

^Depends on the school and how prevalent the Greek culture is, I believe. I think some sorority girls at some schools might have negative attitudes about GDIs, but I don’t think it’s as bad and it’s definitely not as out there…you know how girls are, they’re much less likely to say something to your face.

You’d probably know if your school had an elitist Greek culture. I’m in a sorority and I’d say most Greeks here don’t know a lot of non-Greeks, but they do look down on them more from afar. I personally am friends with waaaay more non-Greeks than Greeks, but I’m a definite anomaly.

You know who was a GDI? Two-term president Barack Obama…

This is really sad. Adults constantly give you the impression that everyone is suddenly mature in college, but in reality, way too many people revert back to middle school standards.

I’m sure most of these lames are going to be screwed over once they’re out of college and struggling to find a decent job.

hahahahaha OP is a total Geed. Ever noticed how Greeks are always more successful than GDI’s.

My gosh OP, next time somebody gives you grief for being a “GDI” just say “I am an adult, I’ve outgrown treehouses, secret clubs, and frats.”

Ugh. This makes me ashamed to be Greek.
In terms of just dressing more nicely…what’s wrong with khaki shorts and a plain v-neck with boat shoes? I always thought fashion didn’t matter with guys at all. I would toss the plaid shorts seeing as plaid is very tricky to work with!
I thought things were only this bad in the SEC (and here…it’s not even)…I’m sorry you have to go through this.

It does depend on the school. I’ve gotten along fine with most of the frat guys here at UMD. I don’t think I’ve ever heard one use the term “GDI” in a serious manner.

God… frats are stupid

LOL I think it’s hilarious how many Greek people like virtuoso1 got their hands on that poster and now spread it around to give themselves even more entitlement.

For one thing, I’m sure being Greek in 2012 is much different from being Greek in the 70’s or 80’s or even beforehand, with regards to the president post.

Second, have you considered that maybe Greek people have higher graduation rates and get higher GPAs because a ton of them major in easier subjects? What percentage of engineers and pre-meds are in Greek life? Some, but not many.

I’m not bashing on the Greek life and I certainly have a handful of friends who are in frats/sororities, do well in school, and are genuinely nice people. But this whole Greek entitlement attitude that some people have is truly stupid and, incidents like the ones the OP encountered only make things worse.

Most frat guys I know are in business. The business world is generally much more of a good ol’ boys society than other fields. Doesn’t mean you can be an intellectual slouch though. The smart greeks will eventually be in top positions… the dumbasses will peak at middle management and wonder why they have a painkiller abuse problem after snorting percs at parties.

Wow the greeks at your school seem like total tools. I go to a really “fratty” school as well and I usually don’t feel nearly as much of a divide between greeks and GDIs.

But here’s the #1 rule on not looking like a GDI:

Don’t wear cargo shorts
