My school is ** really ** greek and there’s a huge dividing line between the greeks and GDI’s. A couple weeks ago, a kid tried to make me give up my seat on a bus because I’m a GDI and he’s Greek and because we were on the bus that primarily only Greeks ride. I didn’t give it up, but half the bus witnessed the incident and I got off at the next stop because I started hearing the word “GDI” get tossed around the bus in whispers and I was ****ed.

Then, like 2 days after, I was walking between classes, wearing a polo and plaid shorts (I looked fratty enough) but like 6 guys wearing their letters were walking in front of me and they started slowing down on purpose and when I passed them they were all like “speed walker!” “GDI!” and laughing and crap.

And my friends and I have been thrown out of parties and “bullied” out of seats in classrooms because of our GDI status and we feel like the quality of life as a GDI is just not as good because on a campus as greek as mine, everyone basically hates you.

Is there a way to get around this, without going Greek? Away to get everyone’s respectand not stand out like a sore thumb as a “GDI?”

seriouslyyyy??! That’s so lame! since when is it middle school again? I think you should cuss them out! teach them a lesson! come up with some good comeback lines!

just make sure you won’t say anything like, “Ima bust a cap in yo ass/ Ima beat yo ass” because then you’d just be asking for trouble! If you do choose to do that make sure that you have a baseball bat or pepper spray in handy!

“Speed walker” is an insult now? Sheesh. Come to my town and I’ll show you some real insults.

This is pure bush league. Ignore them. Or if you don’t want to, call them out on it. Don’t give up your seat, sit there like a man (or like Rosa Parks) and glare them down. What are they honestly going to do? Try to forcibly remove you from your seat in a classroom? Why are they even in class anyways? Shouldn’t they be working out at the gym, chugging muscle milk, and playing Madden?

Ignore it. Greek life isn’t for everyone and you shouldn’t let some people who don’t even know you bring you down because you chose not to join a fraternity.

They were messing with you while wearing letters. So they don’t care about their frat’s rep or their frat has a bad rep to begin with. Either way, you should complain to your school’s IFC.

“seriouslyyyy??! That’s so lame! since when is it middle school again? I think you should cuss them out! teach them a lesson! come up with some good comeback lines!”
seriously? are you in middle school? the best thing to do is just ignore it sometimes. people are usually just trying to get reactions, but if you wanna say something at least try to be clever or point out their stupidity. i’m a greek at my school and stuff like this ****es me off cause it gives all greeks a bad rep, which Vihzel seems to be buying into.

Buy an economy pack of white T-shirts and some iron-on Greek letters.

Seriously though, just ignore it and accept that these people are idiots. Honestly, why are they in college at all if all they want to do is play Mean Girls? If someone tries to force you out of your seat (especially in class - wth?) just try not to react or get upset.

I have to admit, though, that I laughed reading your post because I was imagining the words “Greek” and “GDI” replaced with “white” and “black.”

Where does GDI come from? I’ve never heard of it until now, and to me, it sounds like something non-greeks would’ve made up to insult greeks. I think it’s funny how greeks use it too

GDI definitely sounds like a good thing to be, like an antithesis of “sheep.” I guess maybe that says something about greeks when they use it themselves…

After joining a sorority, it soon dawned on me that most people who ARE Greek use “GDI” offensively as a way of looking down upon non-Greeks. Those who aren’t generally look upon the title of GDI positively. It’s kind of win-win for everyone.

I don’t see any reason for a Greek to look down on a GDI unless they were bragging about being a GDI. Same thing goes for GDIs; there’s no reason to look down on a Greek unless they were making a big deal out of being part of the Greek system.

Ah yes, proof that the jerks of high school do move on to be the jerks of college.

You really should just ignore it because there were being asses and its not a big deal. This type of behavior is unacceptable and looks poorly on the Greek Community. If you can’t get past it, then here’s some tips from what I see at my school.

1) Don’t wear cargo shorts. A simple pair of plain shorts is fine.
2) Don’t wear stuff from AE, AERO, or A&F. Really, don’t wear any brand that has anything other than a small logo on it (example: polo shirts). The preferred brands are Polo, Brooks Brothers, Columbia, The North Face, Vineyard Vines, and Patagonia. (I may have forgotten one or two.) You can get cheaper Polo clothes at a TJ MAXX. Also, collared shirts are preferred over t-shirts. Don’t pop your collar.
3) Dress in conservative colors. Nothing flashy to bring attention to yourself. Color isn’t a bad thing but nothing very bright such as pastel colors. (unless it’s game day and you’re wearing school colors).
4) Get a pair of Sperry’s or the knockoff brand. They are all close enough to the same thing that no one would know the difference unless they really tried to look and were being a dick. Leather flip flops are fine.
5) Costa’s on a croakie (It makes me cringe to see croakies because they look ■■■■■■■■)
6) Don’t get earrings and do have your hair at a moderate to short length. Avoid the hair gel.
7) As far as winter gear goes, you would know better than me, but I would imagine anything by the North Face, Columbia, Mountain Hardware, or Patagonia would suffice. The North Face pullover is very common.

It’s all about being conservative and trying to look somewhat dressy. Pretty much anything from Polo Ralph Lauren will have you fit in and looking like a frat star.

Seriously though, you really shouldn’t try to change what you look like unless that’s how you want to look. Be yourself and you will attract people who are similar to you. If that means that you will not be spending more time with those particular guys on the bus, are you really losing out on that much?
