how do i mention this on a college app?

I’ve been working at nih for the past two summers. Some of the stuff i’m working on this summer will be published in December, and i will be a part of the paper, and will also be be published. how do i mention this on a college app?

thanks.

What’s nih? I’ll assume that’s some newspaper.
Just say that you’ve been working for them and you’ll have the stuff in December. And when the time comes for an interview or something, just bring it with you for proof.
If you’re going to a school without an interview, just put it anyways. Because they will look up the stats if they are suspicious (and the proof will be there)
And usually you turn in college apps in December so your thing may be out by then.

NIH = National Institutes of Health. I’m interning there too!

but i dunno the answer to the question, and I’m not going to pretend I do either.

I actually don’t know the answer, by the way.
My things were just suggestions. :]
And that’s cool - National Institutes of Health!

Oh, I didn’t mean to sound like I was making fun of you. sorry, if you took it that way.

No, it’s fine. I really don’t know the answer! I’m just afraid that the dude who posted this may be confused…like, thinking I know how to do this. Haha.

no problem. didn’t take it that way. what lab are you in?

LOL. this is getting confusing.

Well, I’m not actually in a lab. I’m in the Office of Extramural Affairs doing laboratory animal policy. You?

i’m in the laboratory of cardiovascular sciences.

Lol.no one has answered my question yet!!!

try and work it into an essay. you dont want to come off cocky, but if you work it in nonchalantly it will work

Can’t you put it as one of your extracurriculars? Or, alternately, list getting published as an award (with a note that it’ll be published in December)?

Ah … I don’t really know, sorry haha :|

thanks guys. i think i could try doing that. how about asking my mentor to put it in a supplemental rec?

I think that you might put it in the academic honors section. This is also a great example of why resumes are helpful with your applications. Something like this would be easy to categorize on a resume.

Have your supervisor at NIH write a LOR mentioning your contribution to the published paper.

so. would that be a supplemental recommendation?
