Can someone please explain the general process?
Like, going to orientation, talking to advisor, and blah blah.

So, during the orientation when i talk to my advisor, will I have to know by that time what classes and professors I want? Should i bring a list of the names of professors i want? So, ill be choosing classes with the advisor and that’s it? No online registration?

Also, do I need my laptop to register for classes? I heard about pick&choose prof thing. What is that?

What are some things I have to know about registration before i go to the orientation?

I am SOO clueless!! Help!!!

Just start planning out your classes beforehand before talking to your advisor. You are the one who ultimately picks and chooses which classes to take (unless they are restricted). The advisor is there to just help with class information and maybe help with the scheduling. I would just take a course catalog (can be found online) and start planning my classes on Myedu.

+1 on the Myedu…although don’t depend on the ‘difficulty’ rating of the course on that website.

During orientation the OA’s will give you some pointers about how to use the course schedule to look up classes being offered, etc., and then you’ll meet with an advisor who will give you advice about what to take. You aren’t forced to follow your advisor’s advice, however. They won’t give you advice about professors and that sort of thing, it’s up to you to use MyEdu or pickaprof or something to figure out who to take. I think mainly they just make sure your course load is reasonable (e.g. they keep ambitious freshmen from registering for Calc, OChem and, I dunno, engineering physics at the same time). If you don’t have anything planned they’ll just pull your degree plan and start filling in your schedule with lower-div core requirements and major prereqs that you have to take to graduate. You have to meet with an advisor, though, because otherwise you’ll be barred from registering.

You don’t HAVE to bring a laptop, but I’d advise it. When I was at orientation they had computers available for people to use in the FAC but people were lined up outside the building to get to use them. The only advantage to doing that is that there are people walking around that can help you if you have trouble registering. And yes, it’s a completely online process. Basically you wake up on the last day of orientation, and registration opens at different times based on the first letter of your last name… then after your bracket opens, you register and then orientation is over…

calm down…go to the orientation page on the UT website…everything you need to know, and everything you don’t know, is on there. You just have to search a little bit like everyone else, but that’s what websites are for. If you still have questions, THEN ask them on here…

FYI you aren’t going to get every class you want. Actually, half of the classes you want will be full. Current UT students are registering right now actually and freshmen who attend orientation before you get to register first.

So just relax and wait until orientation. All you’re questions will be answered.
