I have a question regarding retaking an AP test. I got a 3 ap English comp because it was a bad day for me and I just had an ap test earlier that morning so I didn’t do as well as I should have. Although I still get the college credit, I want to retake it because some colleges only take ap scores with a 4 or above and I want to increase my ap test score average so I can be ap national merit scholar. My question is that do I need to cancel my old ap comp score first before I officially buy the new test or should I cancel the old score once I get the new score back if it is higher than a 3. I am a current Junior so I don’t need to send my scores to a college yet. Does that mean that I am able to wait after June 15 when scores are finallized on the grade report because I don’t need colleges to see it? So does that mean that it is best to me to wait after June 15 to cancel my old ap english comp score?

You can’t cancel an old score. I believe you could immediately after you took it but not a year later.

Ok I see, what is the difference between cancelling and deleting an old score then? Or are they both the same thing? What I want to do is retake AP english comp again and I have a couple of choices. I can delete the old score before I take the test, I can delete the score after I take the test (if that is even possible, do I have to delete the old test before I can take the new test?), or I can retake the test and have both scores on my score report. So what is the best course of action?

You can’t delete an old score, no difference. However, if you take the test again and score better, you can report the higher score. AP tests are not counted heavily toward college admissions. I’m not sure what does AP national merit scholar do. Do you get some money?? If not I would forget about it. A score of 3 is not bad, not great but AP score usually depends on the quality of your AP teacher. You had a bad day, you can explain that or obmit the score on your application.
Honestly, it’s not worth the stress.
