Okay so let me give some context before I get straight down into the stats. I am applying maybe for Spring 2017 but more than likely for Fall 2017.
I didn’t do so well in high school. Decided that school was still for me regardless, and thus I decided attending a community college and transferring out was my best option, rather than apply to the very few schools that would have even bothered to look at me straight out of high school.
Going into El Camino Community College I knew that I wanted to do something related to Physics or Math. I noticed that with completion of a Physics AS-T, I would also complete the requirements for a Math AS-T so I said perfect! Enrolled as a Physics major, I was a pretty mediocre student during my first year. (Including a brief stint in a concurrent enrollment mishap during high school involving one class).
It wasn’t up until that summer (going into second year @ ECC) that I got my s* together.
I also figured out this current semester that I fell in love with Classic Physics (High school and College Physics 1- or 1A@ECC) because of the math behind it, the other theory related stuff wasn’t me. I am now strictly a math major as of this semester and many of the schools that I am looking into do not seem to require any more physics than I have already completed as lower-division reqs. Therefore I took a W in Physics 1B (2 elsewhere) this semester and will not be retaking it.
My intention is to become a high school math teacher, with the option of returning to school to eventually teach at the community college level later in life.
I am now going to list my ECC GPA and my grades. I need help calculating my CSU GPA quite honestly, that would be very appreciated.
SUMMER CONCURRENT ENROLLMENT (Didn’t know what I was doing) : (Japanese 1, F, 4 units)
FALL YEAR 1: (Eng 1A, B, 4u) (Math 170, C, 3u) (Jap 1, B, 4u) (Poli Sci, D, 3u)
SPRING: (Eng 1C, A, 3u) (Math 180, D, 5u) (Jap 2, B, 4u) (Poli Sci, C, 3u)
SUMMER: (Physics 2A, A, 4u) (Math 180, B, 5u)
FALL YEAR 2: (Art, A, 3u) (Philo, B, 3u) (Calculus 190, B, 5u) (Physics 1A, A, 4u) (Tutoring Experience 8-week course, W - dropped as did not have the time)
GPA stands at 3.18 according to El Camino.
This semester I am taking Calculus 191 5 units, Communications for 3 units, and a Business course for 3 units, all of which I am confident I can get an A in, without a doubt. I was also taking Physics 1B but I dropped it because I did not see myself getting an A and barely getting a B, it would have been detrimental to my GPA and it is not a req course for Mathematics Education Bachelor’s programs at the main schools I am focusing on. My counselor informed me that W’s are not too much to worry about when it comes to CSU’s, was he correct?
With these 3 A’s my GPA bumps up quite a bit. around a 3.3-3.4 I believe, after this semester I will be left to complete 4 GE’s and 2 AS-T degree courses. All of which will be completed by/or as Spring 2017 semester ends including two additional Computer Science courses that are transferable and are options for some of the programs I am interested in that I will be getting out of the way while at ECC for a total of 8 more classes after this semester.
The schools that I am most interested in are CSULB, CSUF, and CSULA, Pomona, and CPSLO. How do I stand so far guys? Also, what are some, if any, UCs that I should look at, I heard SDSU has a Bachelors for Math Edu as well? Do my F, D’s, and C’s and W in my current semester affect me at all when I go to apply?
