Andover and Groton both have a graded writing sample requirement. All of my assignments are online. How should I submit it? Do I just put in the PDF? Do I need to include the teacher’s notes? If the grade is only shown on Canvas (the website my school uses) how would I include the comments/grades? Thanks.
You can just convert your assignment to PDF and upload it.
Teacher’s notes are not explicitly required by the schools. However, they can provide insights into your writing style, and they will help the school better understand your skills in academic writing (e.g. comments like “this is a strong thesis”). I don’t think it’ll be a big deal if you don’t choose to include teacher’s notes, though; you can include them if you want to.
You can just take a screenshot of your grade displayed on Canvas. For me, I just typed the grade I received into the PDF – I think the schools will trust that you’re being honest, because you signed an integrity waiver on Gateway already.
There is also a description of the assignment section. That is where I put my comments that weren’t on the graded writing sample, in addition to the description.
Actually, this can be very helpful to the AO. Yes, they want to see what your best work looks like. Yes, they want to see how it was graded at your school. And yes, they would like to see what kind of feedback you get. This helps them understand not only your work but your current school/teaching/feedback/ learning environment.
