Hey, so I’ve been dating this guy since Halloween, about a month and a half. This is my longest relationship ever, I"m a freshman and he’s a junior. I"ve always been the type who puts school and friends above dating–I honestly don’t feel a desire to get married and have kids someday, and I don’t want the closeness/constant togetherness/emotional dependance/etc that comes with a long term relationship. I like the guy I"m dating, but I want to tell him nicely that I don’t want anything long-term–especially since he’s a junior and I know a lot of people meet their fiances and stuff at this point in life and I don’t want him to start to think along those lines if we continue to go out…I mean, I like him, but I don’t want to lead him on or make him think I"m looking for something too serious. I’m planning on just being honest and nicely saying everything I said here, but does anyone have any input first? thanks.

Then why are you with him? Honestly, I think you’re being a ***** to him. As you said, people meet their lifelong partners during this time and you know you’re not that person, yet you’re still with him? Do both of you a favor and break it up. Just be friends. Stop wasting his time and yours.

I’m not sure where you’re getting at with this. Do you want to not date him at all? Do you want to date him a bit? Do you want to just be friends with benefits?

If it’s friends with benefits, just tell him. A lot of men enjoy the idea of sex without commitment (I can’t say I’d ever want that, but that’s just me). If it’s anything else, just tell him that you don’t think it’s working out.

Or just be frank with him and say that you don’t want a long term commitment. Honesty and clarity are key for any relationship, be they short or long.

I’m with DC on this one, what is it that you do want?

But if it’s any consolation, those people with a dozen cats usually turn out to be lonely old spinsters, so you’re on the right track.

*I’m with DC on this one, what is it that you do want? *

You’re wasting his time, just break up with him now. You don’t enter a relationship with someone when you don’t want relationships.

Bingo! You want hook-ups, not relationships. Why did you continue to go out with him?

nice…I was beginning to think girls like you didn’t exist.
