I’m now at a school that requires an internship. In conjunction with the internship i take on, I’m required to attend a seminar at the school to talk with other students (also interning) about what i’m doing.
The issue I have with this is that I have to PAY $4,000 for this ‘class’ since it counts as summer tuition… I had no idea that I had to do that prior to enrolling.
This happens at a lot of schools. A lot of companies will offer you an internship for course credit and then pay the cost of the credit in lieu of cash payment to you - it works for them since the $4,000 is less than they would pay if they needed to give you minimum wage for 40 hours a week for 12 weeks of the summer ($8 bucks an hour translates to just over $4,100 when payroll taxes are included). Look for companies that will offer to cover your tuition - if they offer a stipend in addition, that’s a bonus!
