I’m entering as a senior in the fall for high school and I wanted to know how my scores look from my may/june testing. I got a 1680 on my SATs (it’s bad… I plan on taking it again in the fall) and I got a 23 on the ACTs (everyone tells me this is average for certain colleges, but I am going to take them again). I plan on majoring in Biology or Microbiology or Anatomy… something science related since I want to go into the medical field and i enjoy these topics. I got a 4 on my AP calculus BC exam if that helps. I do plan/wish on going to college/university in Boston and Boston only (family related reasons). So how do my scores look for colleges in Boston, MA and what chance do I have to improve them? This is my first time posting on CC so yeah. I’m a A’s and B’s student. Thanks!

Are you looking towards community colleges?

I would shoot for an 1800 on the sat (with studying it seems reasonable).
Your GPA seems good. If you are interested in Boston University check this out <a href=“BigFuture College Search”>BigFuture College Search;
and look under the “applying” section they give average sat/act score ranges

Lol, I wouldn’t look towards community college. I, too just got a 1680 (second SAT, went down from 1740) and I’ve been practicing for about a month now. About 5 hours daily, excluding weekends. My last practice test was a 1930. I used PWN the SAT for math, as well as Grubers Complete SAT for a math review. Writing was a matter of practice and CR went up as soon as I changed my method. If you work hard, anything is possible. I’m improving everyday and am hoping, God willing, to get 2100+.

@aares1 Do you mind sharing your new method?

Sure. It’s nothing magical, before I was scanning the questions and marking up line numbers. Then I started reading and answered as I went along. That didn’t work for me. The key to CR is really finding the approach that works for YOU, so you need to practice to figure that out. Last time I just concentrated on the passage. Paying attention to adjectives (tone) and main idea. When I approached the questions, I tried to literally reiterate what the passage had said. They try to trick you by putting choices that seem great, but aren’t described in the passage. I’ve also been practicing vocab, about 10-20 daily.
I’m not looking into community colleges, and Boston University was really my top school but I don’t know if I’ll get in. But thanks for the link! I’ll definately look into it!
and I don’t know if this helps with my admissions in more schools but, I : Volunteer at a hospital, I volunteer at local popular events, such as festivals, I tutor young students in the four core subjects, I dance, I rank 17 out of about 750 students, I’m going to be the president of a popular club in my school…

thanks for the tips for the SATs ! I really do hope I improve them! Good luck on yours!
