How do OOS students survive financially?

What is the average debt that OOS students come out with? It seems pretty darn expensive considering UCs don’t give aid to OOS residents.

^this.
I’m starting to think the only OOS people who attend UCs are people who make like 200k a year. I’m thoroughly middle to upper middle class and I still can’t find one way to conceivably attend UCLA without graduating with like 80k debt, which is no bueno since I then have to attend law school.

80k?? I’d be looking at over 100k probably -_-

what’s oos

oos is out of state

80-100k debt isn’t that bad. Of course, it’s better if it can be avoided, but if you really want to go to UCLA, then it’s necessary.

^Easy for you to say.
Your parents make over 150k. I saw on the OOS decision board. -___-
For me, $80k debt right before law school is impossible. And that’s not taking into account interest.

But whatever. I really need to stop whining and just get over the fact I’m not going to UCLA.

I agree with WongTong. For me, incurring that debt would be okayif the trade-off would be UCLA.

btw, I’m oos but I received 21,268 in gift-aid and the remaining net cost met b yloans and work-study

I’m OOS and I have an efc of about 4k. I only received about $16,000. Is there any chance that UCLA will/can give me more money? Or is it not even worth trying?

you can always start slanging drugs

If you want to go to law school go to an easier college and get a higher GPA. Trust me.

80k isn’t a wise choice for debt for an undergrad degree, esp if you plan on getting a grad/professional degree.

undertaker— you could try, but since it’s a public school 1)it’s main priority always has been and always will be supporting in state students (at a private school like MIT, it does get fed $$, but it’s only towards the use for US/American students, so they put a cap on international students.) 2)it receives a limited amount of $ from the govt vs a private school.

I’m having the same issue
I got accepted and I’m OOS and they’re giving me about $21k in gift aid for the first year, but my parents would still have to pay about $30,000 since I don’t have relatives in the LA area.

I’m very upset and I would like nothing more than to go, but it’s just financially unreasonable for a public school even if it is UCLA.

:(

^ For the record, in state residents pay $30k a year to attend UCLA.

Damn what were your stats to receive so much gift aid for out of state. I got absolutely nothing.

How do they survive? They’re rich.

If i were you, i’d save the debt for UCLA’s law school. I’d study hard for it if i were you, the 25th percentile of applicants had 165 on the lsat (97%)
