How do u guys think abou the NUS-MIT program?

It’s a joint program of NUS(National University of Singapore) and MIT. Students can have two advisors, one from NUS and one from MIT. However the PHD degree is granted from NUS.

The degree is more important or the possible good relationship with the MIT professors?

I believe the medical center at Duke has an affiliation like this with Singapore as well. Frankly, I think this idea is bad from the institutions perspective, but great for grad students. As I was told, this program allows animal research that would be prohibitive stateside to be carried out. It also allows for clinical trials on the cheap. However, it seems like an enormous expense on the part of the school and i don’t envision the benefits making up for that. I welcome anybody who would like to correct my statements or provide more information about the issue.

Dont let the name of the program fool you. I believe the program is structured so that you spend a year/semester at MIT, and the rest of the time in NUS. I suppose its a PhD program from NUS, with a short exchange at MIT.

Why not just apply for either NUS or MIT, instead of applying for this joint program.

Because I got acceptance from this program and it is unlikely for me to get any other offer this season…

So I am just wondering if I just accept this offer, or apply to US schoolsthe next year? (I did not apply to MIT this year.)

Hi,
I would like to apply for the advanced materials for micro and nano systems under the Singapore MIT alliance.Im doing my final yr in Electronics and Communication.Should i apply to MIT and NUS seperately?Or is there any common place handling SMA applications?Im confused about how to apply for the program. Can yo guys help me out??Thnks:)

While this is what is supposed to happen, students can occasionally do otherwise. One recent graduate of the program, after first coming to MIT, ended up just never returning to NUS and received his PhD on the MIT campus.
