How do universities determine your GPA on your application?

<p>My GPA would be a 3.82 if it only counted transferable courses in most schools. Unfortunately, it is between a 3.72-3.75 since I received some B’s in the easiest classes imaginable. All this despite straight A’s in all the hard classes (Biology, Chemistry, etc.). Thankfully, none of are transferable to just about any private university.</p>

<p>How do schools such as USC determine your GPA? Are they going to count my B in underwater basketweaving or disregard it since it doesn’t transfer?</p>

<p>Schools that consider your entire academic record disregard nothing. But you have nothing to worry about - your GPA is excellent for USC either way, even for Marshall’s.</p>

<p>GPA is weighted, so it doesn’t matter how many units a given class has. But, sure, you can pad your GPA with easy classes. Just don’t forget that schools consider rigor of your coursework and some colleges require completion of certain classes before the transfer.</p>
