How do University Specific Scholarships Work?

For example, I have applied to 6 different colleges and expect to be accepted to at least 5 of them. Ohio University is one that I feel good about (no guarantees, but you know…).

Anyways, using OU as an example, I got an email from them encouraging me to apply for their Cutler Scholarship. This scholarship though is, of course, just for their university. Considering that I don’t know if I will even attend their university, if I apply for this scholarship and recieve it is it binding in any way? Similar scholarships exist for other universities. If I apply for and recieve a university specific scholarship what happens? Will they even tell me about my scholarship status if I don’t say I’m attending the college?

Maybe there are additional deadlines? e.g. The Cutler Scholarship for OU is due Dec. 1, but maybe they won’t begin review until they know exactly who is and isn’t going to commit?

Any help is appreciated. I think the question is kinda self, explanatory. If anything my explanation made it more complicated.

Thanks!

Not binding. In fact, offering these types of scholarships is a way schools try to draw more desirable applicants to accept their admission offers. Apply away, then you can compare once you know the different offers you have. Note that if you are also applying for need based aid, the interaction between that and metitvaid needs to be understood at each schoolto determine your out of pocket costs.

Thanks so much!
