I have literally gone over my mistakes a thousand times in the practice ACTs I’ve taken and I still get barely over half the questions right. What is wrong with me and how do I ace this portion?
I’m doing especially well in all the other portions, especially on the math section and I’m hoping to apply to some of the top ranked schools. My ACT Science section is in desperate need of some help.
So, for those of you who achieved between a 30-36 on your science portions, how did you do it?

Look at the diagrams cAREFULLY to make sure you are answering the question. The ACT loves to trick people, it will often include answers an unwary student will choose. Even thought you don’t need a background in science to perform well on this section, I still believe that having a lot of experience in science classes help because it gives you the scientific intuition needed to perform well on this section.

I’ve been preparing for the ACT for a month now. My initial score was a 31E/36M/32R/29S. I honestly felt like I was blindly guessing on the science section. Up to now, I’ve taken five practice tests. My science scores have been 29, 31, 32, 36, and 29. I’ve found that concentration is the key factor in acing the section. The strategy that I’ve used on my best days was underlining key sections of the passage while crossing out unnecessary fluff. That way, when I went back to look at the experiments, the answers would be quickly found. However, time is still the issue. Many times, the experiments take significant amounts of time to understand (Maybe that’s only for me), so I’ve only finished on time three out of five times. Try your best and give each practice test your 100%.

Go straight to the diagrams and tables. Leave the fighting scientists section until the very end. Choose the sections that you feel that you know the most about first.

I got a 23 on the science section the first time I ever took the ACT. Then I used these techniques and got a 36.
