I was wondering what colleagues do. Are you raising your hand till you instructor notices you, or do you just ask the question out loud? Is there a polite way of asking a question?

ETA: If the professor is writing on the board and hasn’t noticed your hand for a while, it may be appropriate to say “Professor?” out loud. Don’t do it while they’re talking.
Also you could ask after class or during office hours, depending on how in depth your question is
