How do you call your GSI's, first name? Miss? Professor???

Since they are not really professors but they are your teachers its a little awkward calling them professor. Calling them by their first name might be disrespectful. Is Ms./Mr. Last Name, the best option?

just call them by their first name

it might not feel like it but you’re an adult now lol

lol at were adults now-i know sometimes i feel like when I address them by first name they are thinking in their head “what an obnoxious little girl with a superiority complex” hahahahaha

btw panchovilla, in regards to your other thread, its completely normal to start working at all kinds of late hours in college due to distractions. just try to whip it together before midterms

I don’t know if I’ve been lucky, but all my GSIs so far have been very good and very friendly. You should just talk to them a couple of times after class and get to know them. That way you won’t feel awkward when you call them by their first names. :)

People with Ph.Ds/MDs/etc… you call by last name, everyone else, it is pretty much first name

HAHAHAHA!

Most of your GSIs will be less than five years older than you, since most of them have just graduated college a few years ago. A lot of my GSIs are as little as three years older than me. Besides, some GSIs don’t even tell you their last name. It’ll be apparent how to behave once you start class.

I usually call them by their first names. This is how they introduce themselves, and most of them are only a few years older than you.

Just like how professionals address bosses via first name at work, you address GSIs by first name in class. This is even the case when a GSI is solely teaching a class.

In fact, there are even some professors who dislike the formality so much that they’ll invite you to call them by their first names. In fact, I had one that corrected students if they addressed him “Professor” or by his last name. In light of this, it’d actually be awkward to call GSIs by their last name.

Or, you can play it (un)safe: “Hey you!” or “GSI dude…” :D
