I have my AndrewCarnegie ID, but how do I check to see if I have any email at my address. Don’t all students have an andrewcarnegie email account?

Go to http://webmail.andrew.cmu.edu/ and sign in with your andrew ID and password. All students do have accounts. I suggest downloading Thunderbird (related to Firefox) and setting it up with your email account. Webmail is nice for convenience, but a pain to write long emails in.

Download Thunderbird:http://www.mozilla.com/thunderbird/
Configure Thunderbird: http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~help/mail_news/xp_thunderbird/xp_thunderbird.html

Also, subscribe to misc market (bboard where people sell stuff like textbooks and gossip about campus events) by going to folders in your webmail and subscribing to cmu.misc.market .

i subscribed to the misc market thing. its really cool. are there any other things that i should subscribe to?

There are other bboards for classes and organizations, but I don’t think those matter yet.

login to
https://my.cmu.edu

pretty neat gateway to cmu events.

But if you route your email to an email client such as Thunderbird, you will not be able to use the webmail, correct?

I don’t quite get you, Sylvania.
It’s the content of email that matters, not which client you are using…

My question rephrased: Will you be able to use webmail (to perhaps to check your email when you are not at your own computer) after you have set up Thunderbird?

i have been using thunderbird for a qhile now, and i havent had any problems with webmail or thunderbird. i used these sites to sonfigure my thunderbird.

http://www.cmu.edu/computing/contributed/documentation/thunderbird_install/thunderbird.html
http://www.cmu.edu/computing/contributed/documentation/thunderbird_use/thunderbird_use.html

they are kinda long but they cover EVERYTHING, and i havent had a problem.

Yes, you can still use webmail. I know what you mean Sylvania, and it has to do with what kind of email server is used- the email addresses through Roadrunner only allow you to see messages not opened in a client when you are online.

I still use webmail … I just have it foward to my gmail account, then go into the Carnegie Mellon label.

That way I don’t have to check like 8 (literally) email addresses.

OH, and you can send from those emails through gmail too, why not then?
