How do you deal with staff who never reply?

Some grad schools do not provide online status check system.

I emailed and called the program coordinator/assistant several times to check if my materials are received, but she never responded.

Under such situiation, what would you do? Just wait?

Yes, you should wait. Many (though not all) programs will contact you if your application is incomplete.

Please keep in mind that many departments (and even Graduate School offices) are still closed for winter break, and will not reopen for another week, or even two weeks.

Thanks.

Does it happen that they do not contact me with incomplete application after the deadline?

If you did everything in your power and they later say they didn’t receive something after the deadline, I’m sure they’ll give you a break. I mean, what else can you do?

I emailed the contact for a program I’m applying to in early November, and I still never got a reply. So I doubt it’s unusual.

You can also try giving them a call.

If my experiences are any indication, persistence is the key. It is easy to ignore an email, harder to ignore calls and voicemails. Unlike others who have responded to this thread, I wouldn’t have faith that the program coordinators, or administrators, would prevent every single applicant from falling through the cracks. They are dealing with hundreds of faceless files.

When I was going through the process, I always asked questions over the phone to a real person. That way I was never too persistent (they either answered me or told me to bugger off), but I couldn’t be ignored completely.

I’ve heard of people never hearing back from a school. If this happens, the best you can do is complain to them and get your application fee back.

Thanks

I have called someone through Nov to Dec, but she never replied. So I left her my email address in the voicemail regarding my application status, but still, no reply.

I think I will call again next week…:(

It is really unfair if someone’s chance is hurt because of these stupid reasons. At least we paid for application.
