This is a 4 day long weekend for our kids so DD made at least three applications. Other than giving her my CC, I know nothing about the applications. DD has not given me any ID/password to check on line.

Should I call the schools to confirm everything is there? Or I should as for ID/password from DD first?

It takes a while to be able to see the status, sometimes even a month, with State schools. Don’t call the schools, everything can and should be tracked online, and by your daughter. You could ask her if she got confirmation emails or reference numbers.

If your daughter doesn’t want to give you the ID/password, then she surely won’t appreciate you calling the school. She might not care if you check the status via internet, so just ask her about the password. If she says “no”, then it means she wants to take control of the situation.

Since I have followed your story a bit, I am wondering if you are concerned that she might not be trying hard to get into to some of the schools that are not high on her list. If it is a problem of trust at that level, then I think you have some bigger problems.

For his 2 EA apps (to small LACs), my son asked me if I’d call admissions and make sure everything was there when the deadline was near. He hates making phone calls and he was also in class or at play practice during office hours. So I called–no big deal.

However, if your daughter is NOT asking you to be checking on status, that’s a different story. She may want to keep track of it herself. And if she just sent the applications–even online–the schools won’t have processed them yet. If I recall, it took Pomona about a month past the deadline to download son’s app. Other posters in the Pomona forum were saying the same thing.

DD asked for a CC last night but came back saying they would not take the card. I asked why? She said the web site said she was inactive for too long.

Then, I asked, how do you know if they got all your application? She said she got a confirmation e-mail.

How could she got a confirmation without paying the fee? I ask her to call to follow up but don’t think she has time to do that. That is why I want to call and follow up.

Oh you can certainly get a confirmation without the payment. They received the application. And that’s what their email probably says. She should call them and let them know what happened, and ask how to send the payment. Depending on the school, or whether it was Common App., you can go back online and complete the payment portion.

I’m sure its okay to call the school in question, and let them know that she submitted an app. online, and that the payment was not able to be completed. I’m sure they will be very helpful with how you can send them money.

Well, that sounds like a situation that might require a phone call. I don’t think the application goes too far without paying the application fee.

Midmo, schools actually process applications that are complete, as far as transcripts, rec. letters, etc. They may send you a postcard reminder about the application fee. But the acceptance process never got held up for us.

Dad II: For some unknown reason, this happened with my d’s UMich application…We never paid the fee and they did not notify us…Just so she knew that her t’s we crossed and i’s dotted, she asked me to send a check in the mail with a note…and, yes, she did get a confirmation e-mail that the application was complete and it actually said $0 owed for fee!
