How do you dress at the end of the day before PJ's?

Lol – my new place really is boring but I will describe it later when I have time. Seriously not exciting though.

Yes. Yes.

We have 3 separate central air conditioners for this house. I **** you not. It is an earthcraft house, so it’s super well insulated, but summer a/c bills when the house is set at 77 can run about 3-400/month. We’ve had 30 days of over 95 degree heat with high humidity so far this august. When the girls are at camp in July we don’t run the upstairs AC at all (save about 100/month) and the basement a/c is the first to not need to run, but the main level really chugs during those hot months.

Nobody is wearing layers here, it’s camis and shorts (well, not the hubby, lol). Ironically, I have to bring a sweater with me when we go to the movies or I’m in class because most southern places crank the a/c down to about 68, which I find freeeeeeeeeezing.

My house is one of a kind, made out of stone and brick, and it looks like Shakespeare would have lived in it if Shakespeare were a very tall, very narrow dude. When people come inside they’re like ‘wow I didn’t think this house was this big’. It would not look out of place in a Harry Potter movie.

I’m the one who probably brought up aprons as I wear them almost all the time. And I don’t cook! Or do much housework for that matter. DH does almost all the cooking. But I’m a slob when I eat, sometimes splash a bit of bleached water as I pour it into the toilet, and my house is dusty. I would much rather pre-treat or forget to pre-treat an apron before it goes in the wash than set stains in my regular clothing.

I am sitting in the lunar module chair surrounded by my cats who keep me from going insane while reading the textbook. Wearing my Lole pull-on dress.

@BunsenBurner, shouldn’t you be studying, and NOT wasting time on the Internet

Lol! Cats and CC are what keeps me sane!

In the summer I wear house dresses similar to what Oldfort posted and in the winter, it’s a snug robe; in the between seasons I have some long house dresses with short sleeves and a long robe with short sleeves. With all I am braless, of course.

Me too! There’s a woman at work who wears only black and white, and it’s kind of depressing. I went through a neutral-color phase, but now that I see it played out in its most absolute form every day, I realize it’s a look I really don’t like.

I get a disturbing amount of my fashion ideas from sit-coms, now that I’m thinking about this. Remember Mad About You? The Helen Hunt character NEVER wore color, and I think I absorbed the idea that color was for losers. It wasn’t until 10 years later, inspired by Penny on TBBT, that I decided that it really was OK to indulge my love of color, which I now do happily.

It was a wake up call for me when I had to attend a funeral after work that I hadn’t known about and sadly realized that much of my professional wardrobe was sober (& drab) enough to be suitable for a memorial service. After I stopped practicing law, have purchased many brighter pieces.

I hardly ever wear black- maybe trousers or a blazer. Always color. For one thing, I have too many furry animals to make black a good option. I have to scramble for funerals, although the trend is away from black around here.

I went through a phase wear I wore LOTS of black. I think as I age, black doesn’t look very good by my face.
I am moving away from it also. I look best in bright and “true” colors, like royal blue, for example.
Does anyone remember when people were classified by seasons? I’m a “winter.”

@1214mom my grandmother had that book and I remember reading it from cover to cover when I was a kid. (I would literally read anything I could get my hands on, lol). I was somewhere between a summer and a fall, if I remember correctly. Kinda silly, but fun.

I wear a lot of black, but with pops of color. Usually dried acrylic paint is providing the pops of color because I’m a super messy painter. My favorite clothing color for me is cream, and I think about half my wardrobe is cream.

One problem I have with black clothing is keeping it looking fresh. I tend to wear natural fibers and black tends to show fading pretty quickly after several washes. Maybe there is some laundry trick I’m missing? I do the cold water wash thing.

dos, also use Woolite for dark clothes and inside out on a gentle cycle.

Dryers kill color. Hang dry if possible.

“For one thing, I have too many furry animals to make black a good option.”

This! I have the two furries shown in my avatar plus a fluffy, evershedding white cat. I can’t win with black and white clothing! Agouti is my best bet.

MOWC, I wear a lot of black but I think you can easily get away with navy or gray or brown at a funeral. I love your multicolored looks!

My grandmother also had that color book as well as one on make-up which will come to me later. I am an autumn and my best neutrals are charcoal and soft browns. I am better with white against my face than black. Then there’s the giant white shedding animal. We invest in lint rollers. The kid had to laugh at me when we were making his Target college run. He assured me that living away from the animals 2 lint rollers would likely be enough to start. :o3

^^I need to invest in whatever co. makes lint rollers - LOL.

It is time to pull my fluffy fleece Carole Hochman robes out.

Haha - this thread SO got away from PJ’s!!!

I said earlier that while I will wear black tights, black athletic dresses or tops with a print below, I don’t own a pair of black pants and you’ll never see me wearing any type of black/white/cream/grey combination. Always color.

But after reading a couple posts up, I have to mention that I also NEVER wear brown and don’t think I have a single thing brown - maybe a light wheat colored cardigan, but nothing whatsoever in brown. My kids would tell you “my mom HATES brown overall!!!”

^it was all that brown shag wall to wall carpet that did us in. I look good in deep brown but do own anything
that color.
