How do you get invited to Collegiate Open Houses?

Recently, I’ve been seeing questions on “what to do if you’re invited to collegiate open houses”, and, simply put, I have no idea on how to get invited.

I assume invitations are sent based on academic achievements. Is my logic correct? If so, how do you get yourself on the map to College recruiters sending out invitations? Do you have to apply for an invitation or are recruiters actively searching for people to invite?

Normally you just sign up for email lists. These aren’t exclusive events, they’re for people who are on the contact list of colleges.
