I got deferred from my number 1 school(which is practically a rejection for this school) and even though I wasn’t really expecting to get accepted, I was really sad. I had a final the next day and didn’t even study for it and felt despondent while taking it too. I ended up dropping to a B in my class after my final. This is just an example of how I respond poorly to bad news. How do you guys respond? Any advice? thanks.

I watch Seinfeld. Do something that will make you laugh and take your mind off such things.

I use the failure to motivate me. Then I look at things in s bigger picture. Sure you may be rejected at choice 1 but you’ll still go to a great school for undergrad. Maybe you can go to choice 1 for grad school and really who will know the difference? Now you know you are not up to par (sorry to put it harshly but just saying what I do to myself) I will work so hard that I far exceed expectations. Then I watch my favorite show or play Halo haha. Then the hard work begins. Good luck :).

Look at it as if you’re in an ice cream shop. Sure, the store may have run out of vanilla, but there’s always an alternative that’s as good (who knows? try a new flavor and you may like it more!)

Cheer up. A deferral is not a rejection. I’ve also been deferred from my top choice, and I’ll still go on. Plus, even if you end up being rejected, you can still try to transfer to it during your undergrad years. Who knows, maybe you can attend it for grad school, as bleach said.
