How do you guys study?

I’ll be an engineering freshman at UCLA this fall, and I wanted some advice on how to study. Throughout high school I basically self learned using mind maps. I’d be in school till 3, get home by 3;30 and then start making my mind maps in the evening. Basically because I did A-levels, there was a strict syllabus to follow, so I’d make my mind maps covering all of the points bit by bit. Now my problem is this is really time consuming, and at uni I plan on recording lectures and making notes on the lecture in my own time so I’m fully attentive at the lecture you know? But how can I commit the info to memory? Isn’t going over the lectures again, making notes on it, then forming them into mind maps too time consuming? I’ve tried learning just from linear notes, but they don’t seem to work as well as mind maps for me. So how do you guys study? Please tell me everything and give me some advice on how I should study! :)

Bumpedy bump bump bump

You generally won’t be expected to memorize material. I find the best way to study is to do practice problems. You will have to know the concepts but that comes more from doing problems than from trying to commit the information to memory.
