Having paid enrollment deposit but received a call to offer acceptance from the other med school. Does a student have to withdraw the application from the school before accept a new offer or we can accept both but withdraw later? How do you handle multiple med school offers? Thanks for sharing.
Congrats on the multiple acceptance. It’s a good problem to have.
Having said that, unless things have changed significantly, as soon as you accept another offer by paying a deposit, the first school will know and start sending mails asking you to withdraw.
Most people would have waited to pay the deposit until April deadline because acceptances in March is common. While holding acceptance to multiple schools happens, paying deposit to hold spots in multiple schools almost never happens because AMCAS schools know.
Also as soon as you know you are not attending a school, please do withdraw since that spot will now go to someone else. Also any place you have pending interviews, unless they are more desirable program, it is also common curtesy to withdraw and let other people have the chance. It’s appreciated by the schools.
Some medical schools give a shorter window for accepting.
But a student should only continue going to interviews, etc IF they plan to accept an offer to a later offer. And if they receive a later acceptance and accept, they need to withdraw immediately from the first school. Immediately.
And some of those enrollment deposits are not refundable.
I would assume many of these medical schools are money making DO operations. A quick Google search revealed some charge up to $2000 for deposit.
AAMC schools generally do not require more than $100 and deposit should be refundable up until April 30.
