How do you know if you're a National Merit Scholar / AP Scholar?

I live in California and I got a 222 on the PSAT. Apparently the cutoff is 222, so does this mean I am a National Merit Scholar? I didn’t get anything in the mail. What is the difference between a scholar and a semifinalist? Also, I took 5 APs so far (all 5s) and will be taking 6 APs next year. Am I an AP Scholar at any level?

Thank you for the clarification.

If you are class of 2016, the cutoffs and notification of NMSF will occur in September.

You’d be an AP Scholar with Distinction. The official notification comes mid-August.

NM semi-finalist notifications go to your school in Sept; to go on to NMF you have to do an application form (w/ an essay), have your school back you, take the SAT & get a comparable score.

So I am a

  • AP Scholar with Distinction
  • NMSF?
So for the NMSF it is September during my SENIOR year when I actually find out? I’ve already taken the SATs, in fact I took the SAT before the PSAT (and ironically scored higher). My GPA is not perfect (4.0 UW), it’s around a 3.9 I think. Do I have a chance at NMF?

You do not know if you are NMSF until September; the cutoffs vary by year.

Correct.
