How do you obtain a textbook for the summer if your school doesn't allow you to...?

How do you obtain a textbook for the summer if your school doesn’t allow you to check one out over the summer? I’m taking very hard classes next year so should I start prepping over the summer? I’m most worried about AP Calc, and Chemistry Honors, mabye AP Bio. Anyways, what ways can I obtain a text book for these subjects? I’ve read the review books and I still cannot understand it completely because a lot of information seems to be missing. It’s only a review book after all… Should I attempt to buy these online (used) or are there any other ways I could get one to borrow over the summer?

I asked my AP Euro teacher for an early copy of a textbook to make sure that I recieved a decent copy, and he gave me an advanced copy. All i had to do was ask. He’s also been my history teacher for the past two years so that probably had something to do with it.

wont you probably end up buying your books anyway? i am not sure about your school but at my school everyone buys their ap books so that they can highlight them and everything. maybe you could ask your teachers what they are going to use as a textbook and just buy it now instead of next year.

LOL about the previous post. My school is the complete opposite. The school buys the AP Books for people because on average they are the most expensive books in high school, while the student usually buys the lower level textbooks. Answer to thread, I think that I would try to ask the teacher, I already have the AP Art History and AP American book for next year, but that is because the teacher wants us to do things before the next year starts.

I’d ask the teacher, but if they say no, I’d buy it somewhere like Amazon.

Buy a used one from Amazon. Make sure you buy a previous version because they cost much less. (Even 4 dollars in some cases for a perfectly fine book)

Don’t you guys get the textbook anyways before school gets out. At our school, both AP Chem, AP Bio, and APUS all require reading 5-10 chapters in the textbook during the summer.

Just ask for an old edition. Schools are dying to give these away. Thats how I’m getting a precal book. You probably won’t have to return it.

If money is not a major issue, consider buying the same edition you will be using. That way, you will never have to take your book home with you–it will already be there.

okay I got a 4th ed but my class is going to use like the 7th ed next year. Should I just use this book or buy the 7th ed??

just study during the school year

4th ed is likely too out of date.

ok i know you guys are overachievers who cant wait to pop open the book and fly throw it but its summer…

^ yeah, we know it’s summer…but when you have summer HOMEWORK…you need the book. My district hates private schools (one of top 50 public schools in nation-give away all the books to THEIR IB students)…so I’m just getting mine at Amazon. I got a really great teacher’s edition for like, $10 two years ago of my last global book…and it looked brand new (no highlighting, etc).
