Are any letters silent or do you just say it as it is written. Sorry, this is kind of a stupid question

Just like it is spelled…tough fists

Locally, we say “toughs”.

That is true…I just didn’t think of it that way. Your phonics is better than my phonics.

ummm…most people say “Tufts.” with a t between the f and the s.

i dont think they do… try it out.
tough-tiss is prob what you get [to some degree]

toughs is closer to the pronunciation of tufts.

Something I’ve been pondering over is how to make Tufts possessive. Tufts’s? Tufts’? I thought it was Tufts’s because I considered Tufts to be singular, but what about that damn s ugh. I saw it when I was reading the Observer today and wondered if that was correct.

eats, shoots and leaves…

hahahaha…

When I talk with people who know the school, I slur over the t so it’s like toughs. But then my family was confused and asked why I wanted to apply to such a tough school that toughs was its nickname. So if I’m not sure, I try to accentuate the second T. (Although this is kind of hard to do, and takes a lot longer to say Tufts than toughs)

no seriously, most people say it like “Tuff-tz.” And really, I’m from New Jersey, we are FAMOUS for not putting T’s into words. Like, “can’t” and “don’t” lose their T’s, for example, lol.

I also just turned to my roommate, and was like, “Say ‘Tufts’.” She said it, and yes indeed she put a t after the f. When I say Tufts in the possessive, like “Tufts’ IR program”, I just say it as if I said “Tufts”. Perhaps I am wrong, lol

tu-f-ts

…
