A lot of people say it’s important to show that you’ll make a difference on campus. How, exactly, do you show that?

Maybe talk about what you can contribue such as creativity or leadership skills.

The best predictor of future behavior is past behavior. Consequently, you show how you’ll make a difference on campus by demonstrating how you’ve already made a difference in your school or community. Then, tell how you’ll be able to apply your skills and experience to the specific concerns and interests of the college that you’re applying to.

This also is a big reason why colleges are interested in things like one’s volunteer experience, ECs, etc. They figure that someone who has basically been a couch potato in h.s. is unlikely to blossom into a strong contributor in the new environment of college.
