Jim Lehrer reminded me a bit of Tim Russert when he moderated the first debate. The sad, soulful eyes with a little bit of laughter in their depths.

I’ll be glued to the TV; I love the talking heads. I do miss Tim Russert, and Chuck Todd is certainly not a worthy replacement (in terms of analyzing polls, etc., I know that David Gregory replaced him on MTP).

Regarding FB postings, I actually prefer political postings over mundane everyday life matters as the former gives a good window not only into a given friend’s worldview, views on relations between him/her and others/society, level of political/intellectual consistency, and otherwise how they tick as people.

IMO, it’s no different than getting to know such matters through knowing their academic interest(s), viewing their bookshelf, DVD/video game collection, types of hobbies/interests, etc.

As for “talking heads”, I prefer to get it straight from the politicians’ mouths, platform/press releases, public records, etc. During the televised presidential debates, I shut off the TV as soon as the political pundits/talking heads abound unless I have the time and the mood to watch something more akin to WWF wrestlemania* rather than a show which actually examines the politics/issues in any serious depth.

Personally, I’d rather watch ROC(Taiwan) legislators in action as the level of action/passion is likely to be much more authentic than anything the McMahons cooked up with their WWF franchise. :)

First I have to vote after work, even though apparently my state is a foregone conclusion. I wish the election didn’t feel like we’re voting for the President of the United States of Ohio.

Good point Classof2015. While most residents of Ohio are fine, intelligent, insightful people, I know that’s not true of all because my most dysfunctional, white trash relatives live there. Lots of them.

I hope so very much that it doesn’t come down to Ohio. I’d like to know our president before Christmas.

I’m looking forward to watching Jon Stewart covering the events live on comedy central tonight.

Agreed on both counts as someone who went to an LAC located in that state.

Met and befriended many of the former types of folks. Also ended up getting harassed*, targeted for racist epithets, and even threatened with violence by the local ne’er do wells. Also witnessed the same ne’er do wells catcall female classmates and yell homophobic slurs at anyone perceived to be GBLTQ students.

I.e. Being rudely told to “speak English” by locals while speaking Mandarin to some Chinese students on a public street. Ended up turning it back onto them by giving them a short civics lecture on how the First Amendment gave me the right to use whatever language I damned well please.

My least favorite relatives live in Ohio and are extremely at one end of the spectrum. I cannot believe their votes (OH) will likely decide the POTUS.
There are already lawsuits starting in OH regarding a last minute change of a tabulation software program. This may not be decided until December!

I’m just hoping it’s decisive enough elsewhere that OH and FL can go on for as long as they like with their counting and bickering and litigating, and it won’t matter one bit to the rest of us because we’ll have already elected a President. It’s mathematically possible.

Agreed. The lack of a clear winner by morning, no matter who you support, is just miserable for the entire nation.

I’ve taken the afternoon off to do a last round of GOTV calls from home. During the last hour I’ve had 3 GOTV volunteers ring the doorbell, setting off a frenzy of insane barking from my normally nearly moribund labradors. The last time, the person I was talking to on the phone asked, with real concern “is everything ok?”

I think the dogs have had enough, too.

My stomach is in knots.

Can anyone direct me toward a good online place to keep track of election results, other than Twitter? Our only cable hookup in our apartment is currently being used for the internet, and I think my fiance would object to my disconnecting that!

Julie, I like NPR.org online and you can also listen to their live feed. None of the hysterics you find on TV.

realclearpolitics.com is the place for good numbers

zoosermom, that looks like a very good site.

Why are the ads still on??? :(

It’s really fair. Both sides sometimes get offended!
I was turned on to that site by a high muckety-muck in my state.

Thanks for that site, zoosermom. Very clear and easy to read.
