How Do You Study World History?

Hi,

I’m a homeschooled student who’s self-studying World History on my own. So far, I’ve been going through History: The Definitive Visual Guide, a comprehensive book by DK. My book covers everything from our ancient origins to the modern day. I’ve currently got up to about the 12th century just by reading so many pages each day. I’ve got the Barrons AP book on this, and I want to take the SAT II this December. But I also want to supplement this book in some way and learn this subject permanently and in-detail.

Should I practise writing essays on important events/historical figures? Should I try to find some good History sites on the Internet? Or should I borrow some more History books on a particular topic from my local library?

Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks :).

I suggest prepping for DBQs, which are Document Based Questions (basically you’re given a document, could be a picture, map, or writing, and you are expected to write an essay about a question they give you using those documents as your proof.) It’s really a loose, rushed version of an actual essay (usually you write a DBQ in 40 minutes or so) and it comes in handy if you practice now because this comes in a more complex version come APUSH.

I received a 5 on the AP World History mostly because I read from my textbook The Earth and Its Peoples: A Global History AP edition 4/e.
