How do you tackle figure questions ?

Hi guys I wanted to ask you how do you tackle figure question like this for example.

If the rectangular box with no lid shown above is cut along the vertical edgages and flattened, which of the following figures best represents the result ?

How do you think about these types of questions because I always like 1/2 see it many times on the SAT!. Sometimes I ask myself to solve it or not,so I not waste many time,so I end up solving it and wasting time and making it wrong lol.

So I was wondering how do you tackle these???!

Just simulate it with a box you have at home. I know you have some UPS delivery boxes or something.

You have to tackle all your problems before taking the SAT. On the SAT, you just put down the right answer :p.

^Yeh I am trying to do as much ideas as possible before the exam so I know these problems.

But at this types of problems sometime they get different images so I was wondering do people just draw it in exam and simulate them or think about it in different way.
